TRANSCRIBERS/TRANSLATORS (6 POSITIONS).

Position Duration: 2 Months

JOB SUMMARY:

The Center for International Health, Education, and Biosecurity (CIHEB) Kenya is seeking skilled and experienced transcribers and translators to contribute to the research project aimed at enhancing the delivery of Routine Catch-up Vaccination in Siaya County, Western Kenya. The selected candidates will be responsible for accurately transcribing and translating audio recordings from Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted in English, Swahili, and Dholuo. The expectation is for transcribers/translators to provide both verbatim and clean verbatim transcripts for each audio recording. This will then be translated to English for analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Transcribe audio recordings in verbatim
  2. Proofread and review transcripts to ensure quality and consistency
  3. Translate transcripts to clean verbatim in English, preserving meaning and context
  4. Adhere to established data quality procedures and maintain the highest standard of accuracy
  5. Uphold confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly
  6. Perform other duties as assigned to support the study’s objectives

Qualifications:

  1. Diploma or degree in public health, social sciences, linguistics, or a related field
  2. Native-level fluency in both spoken and written Dholuo and strong proficiency in English
  3. Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  4. Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to deliver accurate work under tight deadlines
  5. Proficiency in speaking, writing, typing, and translating to and from English/Dholuo
  6. High degree of personal and professional integrity, with the ability to handle confidential information discreetly
  7. Familiarity with health and immunization terminologies is an advantage
  8. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in transcription or translation roles within health or social science research
  • Commitment to maintaining quality, confidentiality, and integrity in all tasks

Background:

The Center for International Health, Education, and Biosecurity (Ciheb) — Kenya is a local non-governmental organization collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and County Health Management Teams to strengthen health systems for improved quality of healthcare in Kenya. Ciheb-Kenya is collaborating with the county governments of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Nairobi, Kisumu, and Migori to support the implementation and expansion of high quality, sustainable, and comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs, and expansion of COVID-19 vaccination with funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Job Summary.

The Team Lead/Biomedical Officer will provide and lead biomedical, social and economic interventions to the adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) accessing DREAMS services in the ward site. S/he will manage personnel and oversee site performance review activities according to the key site performance indicators.

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and Lead provision of biomedical, social and economic interventions to the adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) accessing DREAMS services in the ward.
  • Coordinate field and main office activities including staff performance, ward performance, site schedules and linkage with satellite safe spaces.
  • Coordinate and track safe space activities and performance.
  • Screen and provide ALLrequired biomedical intervention/services including STI screening and syndromic management, HIV testing services, contraceptive method mix, Post Rape Care management, PEP, PrEP and other clinical services in the DREAMS clinics.
  • Support and track referral completion for male sexual partners linked for required biomedical services including VMMC and HTS.
  • Build the knowledge and capacity of ward staff and mentors on HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and other HIV prevention interventions through mentorship, training, and facility level continuous medical education.
  • Work with facility staff and community teams to sensitize adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) on available biomedical, social and economic building interventions.
  • Conduct site-level support supervision and mentorship to ensure biomedical, social assets and socio-economic interventions are implemented per national standard and quality parameters.
  • Lead site level continuous quality improvement (CQI) projects and track performance on digital platform.
  • Support access to comprehensive HIV care and treatment for AGYWs who sero-convert while in the DREAMS Program.
  • Participate in SCHMTs MoH & DREAMS joint planning and data performance review meetings
  • Ensure availability of commodities including rapid test kit, PrEP, STI and FP commodities for seamless provision of biomedical interventions.
  • Prepare site level, biomedical, social protection and socio-economic activities reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

 

Required Qualifications.

  • Diploma or Degree in Clinical medicine or Nursing
  • Registered by Clinical officers or Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Extensive experience in HIV prevention programming, with a minimum of 1-year experience in a DREAMS facility, working with AGYWs.
  • Training in NASCOP certified HIV prevention and STI management.
  • Experience leading a team is required
  • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills
