This meeting served as a platform to review the progress of PrEP implementation and to develop robust strategies to scale up its integration within outpatient departments and maternal child health clinics.

Key Objectives

The Participants focused on:

  • Conducting a comprehensive progress review: Evaluating the successes and challenges of current PrEP programs.
  • Formulating strategies for enhanced integration: Developing actionable plans to increase PrEP integration into outpatient departments and maternal child health services.
  • Empowering PrEP Champions: Providing the champions and focal persons with the skills and knowledge needed to drive demand creation, client linkage, and follow-up.

Meeting Highlights

The meeting featured a series of informative sessions and interactive discussions designed to equip participants with practical tools and strategies to improve PrEP services. Key highlights included:

  • Progress Review: Detailed assessments of current PrEP programs, identifying successes and areas needing improvement.
  • Strategy Development: Collaborative workshops to develop actionable plans for integrating PrEP into outpatient and maternal child health services.
  • Skill Building: Training sessions focused on effective communication, client engagement, and follow-up techniques to ensure sustained PrEP use.

Looking Forward

The Quarterly PrEP Review Meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to strengthen PrEP integration and ensure more individuals can benefit from this preventative measure. By empowering PrEP Champions with enhanced skills and strategies, Ciheb-Kenya CONNECT Program and the Nairobi County Department of Health are taking significant steps toward reducing HIV transmission rates and improving public health outcomes.

 

Progress and Impact

Since October 2023 to June 2024, Ciheb-Kenya CONNECT Program has successfully initiated 9,652 individuals on PrEP, surpassing a target of 8,374 by 115%. During this period, 4,305 PrEP activities were recorded, including 744 restarts and 3,561 refills.
