Ciheb Kenya had the distinct honor of hosting U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, at the Central Kamagambo DREAMS site in Migori County.

This DREAMS site, supported by Ciheb Kenya, plays a crucial role in empowering adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) through a wide range of life-changing programs. DREAMS which is an acronym for Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe is an initiative aimed at reducing HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa by addressing key risk factors and empowering them through education, mentorship, and economic opportunities.

During her visit, Ambassador Whitman engaged with the DREAMS girls and expressed her admiration for the progress they’ve made through the program. The site offers a variety of empowerment initiatives, from a state-of-the-art Computer Hub to vocational training in fields traditionally dominated by men, such as electrical engineering, masonry, and catering. Additionally, the girls showcased their talents in producing artisan handmade crafts, reflecting their growing confidence and skills. These young women are truly breaking barriers and paving the way for a brighter future.

The Ambassador was accompanied by a distinguished delegation, including H.E. Dr. Ochilo Ayacko, Governor of Migori County, Dr. Emily Koech Keter, CEO of Ciheb Kenya, Dr. Jennifer Galbraith of the Kenya CDC, and other esteemed guests. Their presence underscored the strong partnerships that are vital to the success of the DREAMS program.
